Who am I?
My last couple of years in High School, I had no idea what I wanted to do with myself. I knew that I'd end up going to college but hadn’t decided on which university I wanted to attend, what major I wanted to pursue, or what possible career I wanted afterwards. Growing up, I always wanted to be an architect. The whole idea of building things from the bottom up fascinated me. As I progressed into high school, my parents were encouraging me to steer more towards the medical field. I hadn’t thought about it up until junior year when it came time to plan the future. I thought about being an author because I loved writing books as a kid. I thought about being director because making horror movies seems like something I could never get tired of. I thought about being a painter, a surgeon, an actress, an animator, a therapist, an astronomer, and even an astronaut. It wasn’t up until my first semester at university that I finally decided I wanted to be a dentist. Being a dentist would make my parents proud as they’ve wanted me to be a doctor of some sorts, it would provide me with the income I'm looking for to be able to live a comfortable life, and it would be something I wouldn’t mind getting up every day to do. I feel like dentistry is perfect for me because I'd be able to incorporate my love for art while perfecting peoples’ smiles. I was one of those kids who looked forward to going to the dentist twice a year. It’s always felt like a warm and welcoming environment and the doctors seemed content with what they do.
The Vision
When I envision the future, I see myself living in a comfy three-story home, with a few pets and a stable job. I would love to be able to build the house, but for now that might be a stretch. I see myself painting and decorating the interior to my liking, having a studio, and painting in my free time. I do not see myself with a partner or any children. I’ve never really been too into the “wife and kids” lifestyle and marriage wasn’t really something that peaked my interest. And if things go according to plan, I would be living in Belgium where I can continue to learn French and perhaps pick up on some Dutch or German.
The Overall Goal
In order for me to reach my end goal, I’d need to finish at least four years of undergraduate school, then go on to four more years in graduate school. My plan is to graduate NC State by 2022 with a bachelor's degree and then go into dental school at UNC Chapel Hill which I will then graduate from in 2026 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (DDS).
